but first, what is a design consultation?

An interior design consultation is a value-packed session with an interior designer that allows you to explore how you can enhance your interiors. You get the opportunity to review your space with a designer, workshop solutions to your space challenges and identify opportunities to achieve a harmonious, balanced and elevated environment.

what are the benefits of a design consultation?

Some benefits of an interior design consultation:

  • Save time and money

  • Avoid overwhelm and analysis paralysis

  • Get clarity and inspiration

  • Workshop ideas with a qualified design professional

  • Understand how improving your interiors can improve your life, work and wellbeing

  • Determine your next best steps to bring your vision to life

Here’s three examples of past client consultations to give you an idea of what can be achieved in 90 minutes together, and what the clients had to say about their experience working with me.

Case study one

virtual design consult, mornington pensinsula - vic

What we covered:

  • Ideas to brighten up the lounge room, a dark space with not a lot of natural light and old dark carpets.

  • Guidance on flooring and furnishing options for the living room, where built-in seating had been removed from a bay window exposing areas of flooring which didn’t match the rest of the space. This area was well positioned near the fireplace (a nook enjoyed in the cooler months of the year), but wasn’t comfortable or functional for the family and their guests.

  • Options for updated window treatments for the three spare bedrooms.

  • Suggestions for updated lighting fixtures.

  • Ideas for wall art and other decor that would bring some new life to the home, while still working well with treasured family heirlooms.

“We were so fortunate to have had a Virtual Consultation with Jefsie to assist with the decorating and furnishing of our living area and lounge room. Absolutely impressed with her many ideas on enhancing and bringing more light to our lounge room, with the right fittings and furnishings. Having a tricky space in our living area Jefsie was creative and knowledgeable in the type of flooring and furnishings which would give us a quiet and cosy space. Jefsie’s summary of the Consultation was exceptional, including links and photos. We cannot wait to get started on all the rooms Jefsie helped design. Jefsie was an absolute pleasure throughout the consult - friendly, creative, enthusiastic and professional.”

in-home design consult, Melbourne - vic

What we covered:

  • Ideal rug sizes, materials, styles and colours for the living room and children’s playroom to pair with recently purchased furniture.

  • Options for accent lighting and lamps, including suggested items, suppliers and positioning.

  • Curtain options for the front room to provide increased privacy, without blocking out natural light.

  • Tips on hanging feature art the clients were looking to purchase.

  • Suggestions for making the entryway more inviting and functional for the young family and their guests.

  • Ideas to freshen up the study space with shelving, lighting and feature wall inspiration.

  • Some suggested items for purchase, with links to retail items or details on how to purchase items via designer-only suppliers.

“My husband and I engaged Jefsie to assist us with furnishing and decorating our living room and playroom for our young family. We were incredibly impressed by Jefsie's intricate understanding of our brief, the ideas she brought to the table as soon as she arrived, and the outside of the box thinking with design solutions for tricky spaces in our house. Our only regret was not engaging Jefsie sooner. We can't wait to not only complete the spaces she helped us design, but also work with her again when we tackle the next project!”

Case study three

Virtual Design COnsult, mornington peninsula - VIC

What we covered:

  • Deep dive into options for a new dining table and dining chairs that were family friendly, and the appropriate size and style for this young family.

  • Reviewed items the client had shortlisted, and explored some alternative options that would be practical and budget-friendly without compromising on style.

  • Discussed materials, colours, textures and sizes of furniture.

  • Provided feedback on furniture positioning and suggestions to optimise the flow of the space.

  • Options and considerations for some updates to the master bedroom, including guidance on bedside tables with links for the client to purchase at a later date.

“Jefsie assisted us with a virtual consult for updating our dining furniture that complemented our existing floor plan. Jefsie was extremely knowledgeable in the type of furniture that would soften and freshen our space while remaining practical for our young family. The document Jefsie provided us after our consult exceeded our expectations and we now have a clear focus for furniture improvements. Thank you so much Jefsie! Can't wait to work with you on another room of our home soon.”
